Beautiful Teaching

Beautiful Teaching - One of my favourite things within my work is teaching children and young people to meditate. It’s gives me so much joy to see them discover something completely different and benefit so much from it.

Meditation can improve focus and concentration, reduce stress and anxiety, and help heal the body, amongst many other benefits.

Some schools around the world, make it part of their curriculum, and see a huge difference in the performance of their pupils. If every child practiced meditation every morning for just 15 minutes, it would undoubtedly make a huge difference to the human race.

I also work with teenagers who are struggling with anxiety, self harming, depression, confidence and concentration issues. From the first class, I saw huge leaps forward in their mental well-being. It was deeply humbling to help them realise that within them, was a safe place to escape their thoughts for a while, which in turn, gave them so much self empowerment.

Many of you will be at home right now with young people. Why not start your day meditating? Depending on their age, start by allocating a time each morning where you sit peacefully together. No distractions, just for ten to 15 minutes. Ask them to close their eyes and notice how they feel, how do their clothes feel, what sounds do they notice. Encourage them to focus on their breathing, breathing deeply in through the nose, really filling their lungs and their tummy. Then exhaling through the mouth or the nose. Teach them to slow their breath down and imagine breathing in a colour or a positive feeling/thought/word. Follow it with e exhaling a negative feeling/thought/word.

Remember meditation is a practice so if you only manage to do 5 minutes today, aim for 6 tomorrow!

While writing this I wonder if I should offer some free sessions for parents on line! Let me know if that interests you!?
