Sarah Reygate
AN INTERVIEW
As soon as you engage in conversation with make-up artist Sarah Reygate, you can understand why she has such a loyal list of celebrity faces to work with. After 32 years in the business, Sarah radiates positivity and a wonderful sense of happiness in her own skin.
“I live in Ladbrook Grove with a flatmate, and my cat Tolstoy, and I love it!”, she tells us, “and my meditation every morning is to sit in front of my mirror for half an hour and apply my make-up as if I am going on stage”. “I love doing the natural look, and my forte is a flawless complexion, although on myself I think a red lipstick can magically take years off me”.
52-year-old Sarah, feels that despite all the make-up at her fingertips, beauty is about the way we feel and how we look after our selves. Adopted with her twin sister, Sarah describes her herself as incredibly lucky, “I had a gorgeous upbringing, and having a twin has meant I have never felt lonely”. Sadly she has lost both her parents but you wont hear Sarah saying “poor me”.
Sarah’s clients include Florence Welch (Florence & The Machine), Elle Macpherson Bryan Ferry, Laura Baily, Annie St Vincent, and Daisy Lowe. Her beauty ethos starts with a very clean face, properly cleansing your face at night and regularly changing your pillowcase. “I’m not into Botox or fillers, but I have my favourite brads, right now I’m loving It Cosmetics as they are a combination of cosmetics and skincare. They are especially good for rosacea and pigmented skin, I love their CC Cream which has a factor 50”. Sarah also loves luxury brands Glossier and Lancôme and describes them as “effortless”.
We asked Sarah what she thought of how make-up has changed, “I find it sad that young girls are all doing the same thing these days, with all those tutorials on contouring, eyebrows and false lashes, they all look the same, there’s no individuality!” We agree with Sarah and if you take a look at her Instagram page, you will witness for yourself her wonderful uniqueness.
We asked Sarah our 5 Beautiful Women’s questions, enjoy!
1. What’s the best thing about getting older?
The best thing about getting older ... Experience !!! The fantastic era’s I have been through the people I have met & loved and memories I have collected - I feel very lucky to have had these. Also I am far less affected by people’s opinions of me now - I needed so much approval when I was younger .. so tedious
2. Who is your female inspiration and why?
Scarlett O Hara from Gone with the wind. She was vain, manipulative charming & selfish but when it came down to it she was a survivor who was brave & resourceful loved fiercely & never gave up !
A true Femme Fatale!
3. What’s your top tip for growing old gracefully, perhaps one beauty tip?
My top tip for Growing old gracefully is maintenance & I don’t mean relentless fillers, Botox & surgery .. It’s about every day looking after yourself -what we take for granted when we’re young we now have to tend too ... try not to be bitter about life’s disappointments - they really do show on your face and of course ‘ everything in moderation ‘!!!! I’m not saying I’m good at this bit but I try (most of the time)
Also Make up - wear good make up ... it really helps!
4. What would your younger self say to you now?
My younger self would say ‘ This is not what we planned but actually it’s ok you didn’t betray yourself ‘ My older self would say to younger self ‘ for God’s sake know what you’ve got and stop ripping yourself to pieces ‘
5. What are your dreams for your future?
My dreams for the future are to be ‘relentlessly happy & healthy and to grow old disgracefully and I would also love this for my family (except the disgraceful bit!)
