Beautiful Inner-Child
Beautiful Inner-Child - Lets talk in detail for a moment about our fears and phobias. Sometime ago, I saw a client who was afraid of spiders. She was about to travel and knew that there was a good chance that she could come face to face with a large arachnid. Like most fears and phobias, they are irrational on the surface, but in my experience regressional therapy can reveal the route cause of the problem. In this case, my client found herself back in her early childhood listening to her parents talking about divorce downstairs. For a young child, it’s hard to comprehend and process something as huge as her parent’s imminent separation.
A convenient distraction, in the form of spider, crawled across the wall. In that moment, her mind transferred her fears into arachnophobia. For her child’s mind, it was much easier for her to be afraid of something tangible and straight forward. The problem with our fears and phobias, is that the mind likes to play. The phobia grows and before we know it everything seems bigger, and more threatening, sometimes terrifying.
I have seen this pattern again and again, so through a simple NLP practice together my client and I go back and rescue the child who was frightened. We seek the route or sometimes many route causes of the problem. Diving into your subconscious, and doing a little bit of re-wiring can be life changing. Rescuing your inner-child can be deeply comforting and of course emotional. But it’s a step in the direction of self-love. We all need to connect with our inner child, nurture and love them.
This incredible sculpture was created by Alexander Milov for Burning Man 2015. I think it depicts our Inner-Child so beautifully. Nurture your Inner-Child and you too could have a happier and less fearful life. #innerchild @alexandermilov
