Beautiful Grounding
There is an incredible world out there, but for some, the thought of adventure or even just leaving our creature comforts can be terrifying. If you suffer from separation anxiety, fear of letting go in some way, it can be debilitating. Grounding yourself can help you to take baby steps in the right direction.
Take your shoes and socks off and feel the ground beneath your feet. Ask yourself “how do your feet feel?”. If you can go outside, this is even better, feeling the natural energy coming up from an earthy place in particular can help you feel rooted.
Imagine roots growing from the souls of your feet and attaching to the Earth’s core. This can help you feel very grounded and can be done anywhere.
Learn to distract yourself, by looking around you, create a mental list. Perhaps 5 things you can see, 4 things you can hear, 3 things you can touch, 2 things smell and 1 thing you can taste. Or play a game finding things of a certain colour, shape or beginning with a letter. But don’t obsess, remember it’s just a distraction, not paramount.
Breathe! I know I am like a broken record about this, but regular, slow breathing WILL calm you down.
If you find you are really struggling, take professional advice. I have successfully treated many clients for panic attacks, anxiety and phobias such as this. You don’t have to live with this, feel free to email me, I’m always happy to chat.
